day 6: Shivaduti: Nitya of Communication

Om Shivadutiyai Namaha

Sun:  11 Pisces
Moon: 29 Taurus, 72 degrees from Sun, First Quarter Moon
Inner Moon: days 8-14, follicular/proliferation

Moon Vibes:

The warrior experiencing tension between self and group. Concerned with justice in the organizations and groups. Relates with vernal equinox and Ostara/Easter. In tantra yoga, this is the descending in-breath (prana-vayu) from third-eye to the soft palate, relates with midday and the element is fire. In the hero’s journey, we are taking inspired action, feeling tension and resistance in group efforts, wanting to differentiate. Feeling strong and empowered to cross initiation threshold. Blazing new trails which could become new systems for society. First quarter Moon relates with follicular and proliferation hormones, building up of estrogen, uterine walls thickening, eggs maturing. This phase of lunar cycle can be powerful and exciting. Use it for courtship, dates night, seduction, and rituals that focus on building and growing. Use foods that nurture and support. Warm and comforting foods like root vegetables and curry spices.

Moon in Gemini:

Relates with shoulders, lungs, bronchial tubes, arms, hands. The first places we split off into identical twins.

Nutrition suggestion:

Gemini is an air sign that is playful, creative, and fun when it’s healthy. The nutrition suggestion for first quarter Moon in Gemini is cooked pears with ginger and cinnamon. This is primarily a healing food for lungs.

  • 1-3 pears, cleaned and seeded.
  • 1 inch ginger, cleaned and peeled.
  • Cinnamon powder to taste.
  • 3-4 cups purified water.

Simmer all ingredients in a covered saucepan until pears are soft and juicy. This recipe is delicious with apples added to it. Cooked apples and pears are both good for lungs.

Ritual:

As we shift into the first quarter moon phase and begin to experience the brighter half of the moon cycle, we will practice verbalizing our intentions as positive affirmations.  This ritual works with the power of vibration, when you speak your affirmation aloud you create a resonance with your words that can help shift you out of old patterns and into new ones.

Create sacred space with your journal in hand, begin by reflecting on what is growing for you so far this cycle.  What has been emerging since the new moon last weekend? With awareness of all that is growing in your life right now, think of the energies that will support and nurture this growing process… this is the material you will work into an affirmation statement. Example: “I am committed to unfiltered self expression as a sacred act of service to all those whom I am in relationship with, beginning with myself.” (this affirmations supports my current cycle as the Sun transits my natal sun in the 7th house). Choose words that support the growth of your current cycle.

  • Formulate an affirmative statement in the positive present tense.
  • Speak your affirmation aloud, notice how your body responds as you speak (you may notice an adverse reaction or tension when you begin speaking your affirmation, push through any discomfort, this can be perceived as growing pains).
  • Continue speaking your affirmation aloud until it is resonating as truth in your body.
  • Write your affirmation again and put it somewhere you can see it everyday and work with it until the full moon.

Close sacred space and give thanks!

Astrology info to consider:

We are informing cosmic mystery as much as cosmic mystery is informing us.

Menstruation cycle and Moon:

What phase of your inner Moon cycle are you in? What hormones are most prominent? How does this relate with outer Moon’s follicular/proliferation? Remember, your cycle and Moon cycle do not need to match. Read more about the correspondences here.

Dreams:

Being aware in waking life increases awareness in dreaming life, and vice versa. Tonight before going to sleep, practice retracing your steps. Recall as many events as you can from right now backwards in as much detail as possible.

  • Write the date in your dream journal.
  • Write anything you’d like to learn about or experience in your dreams.
  • Make sure your pencil is there and your little light is charged and ready.

Retracing your steps and doing dream journal preparation confirms your intention to recall and write your dream. For a better dream life, make this a habit.
