You meet someone, feel the electricity, and suddenly they occupy your imagination. You fantasize about who they are, who you could be together, and the life that might unfold through loving them. But what if the person you’re attracted to represents something deeper than your romantic ideal of them?

What if you’re rising in love with a version of yourself you haven’t fully embodied yet?

The Alchemy of Attraction

In astrology, the Ascendant describes the self your are rising into. The Descendant points toward the qualities you encounter through partnership. Venus and Mars illuminate your desires, your attractions, and the pull of polarity that magnetize us together.

You often recognize something in another person before you know how to express it in yourself.

You’re attracted to someone’s confidence because you’re learning to trust your own power. You’re drawn to someone’s free spirit because you’re ready to break out of the limitations you’ve placed on yourself. You crave the way someone makes you feel desired and chosen because you’re learning to recognize your own value and worth.

You place these qualities on an altar outside yourself and become enchanted. You think you want them. And perhaps you do want them. But beneath that desire is an invitation to discover what their presence has awakened in you.

Reclaim Your Fantasy-Self

The trouble begins when we confuse the person with the possibility they represent. You fall in love with their potential, your imagined future, or the way you believe you’ll feel once they choose you. You try to make reality conform to the fantasy. But the fantasy contains information about you. It reveals your desires, values, unlived possibilities, and the parts of yourself longing for expression.

The work isn’t to stop fantasizing. It’s to become conscious of what the fantasy exists for.

What are you projecting onto this person? What have they awakened in you? What are you waiting for them to give you permission to become?

Reclaim the projection. Embody the desire. Become an active participant in your own becoming.

Compatibility Is a Lie

The way we’ve been taught to think about compatibility deserves serious questioning.

Love isn’t simply finding someone who fits your existing identity, checks your boxes, and never challenges your expectations. Intimacy can stretch you beyond who you’ve known yourself to be.

The person who captivates you may disrupt your familiar patterns and reveal the edges of your becoming.

Transformation isn’t an excuse to abandon yourself, tolerate abuse or mistreatment, or force a relationship. The other person is a real human being, with their own desires, limitations, and capacity for love.

The alchemy happens when you can hold both truths: your attraction is revealing something about you, and the person in front of you must still be seen for who they actually are.

Can You Expand Into Love?

Romantic love offers you a chance to become more than you were, not by turning another person into your missing piece, but by allowing desire to open doors within.

Think about the person who has captured your imagination.

What does their presence awaken in you? Who do you fantasize about becoming beside them? And what would happen if you began embodying that version of yourself now?

What if romantic love isn’t about finding someone to complete your fantasy, but discovering who you’re capable of becoming through the experience of loving another human being?
